Behind Black Ink Peony

HI! I’m Kyera, the founder of Black Ink Peony.

I loved stationery long before I knew it could become a serious interest. As a child, school-supply shopping felt like an occasion. I played “office,” collected paper, and found reasons to write things down. As I got older, I began to feel embarrassed by how much I enjoyed it, as though stationery was something I should have outgrown.

Then I became an adult, earned adult money, and picked up a fountain pen.

It changed the way ordinary things felt. My handwriting became more expressive. Writing felt feminine and considered. Even a simple list became something I wanted to slow down for.

It reminded me of my grandmother. She always arrived at the store with a handwritten grocery list in beautiful cursive. At the time, I didn’t realize how much that image would stay with me.

Fountain pens brought a sense of pleasure back into a life that had started to feel too routine. Soon I was collecting inks, matching pens to their colors, and choosing journals to bring everything together. I loved the ritual of it. I still do.

Black Ink Peony grew from that feeling.

Everything in the shop is something I personally use and love. Each product is chosen with care, and every item is here for a reason. My hope is that when you browse the shop, you can feel that thoughtfulness. Nothing is added simply to fill a shelf.

The name was chosen to feel intriguing rather than obvious. I love peonies, but I didn’t want the shop to feel overly floral or expected. I imagined the kind of place you might notice while walking down a street in New York: a dark storefront with a name that makes you pause and wonder what is inside.

Black Ink Peony is for anyone who wants to write. You might be choosing your first fountain pen or searching for an ink unlike anything already in your collection. Either way, you belong here.

Writing by hand made my everyday life feel special again.

I created Black Ink Peony to help others discover that feeling for themselves.
